Safety screening
Tell the imaging team about implants, metal fragments, braces, devices, previous surgery and possible pregnancy in an adolescent.
For parents and caregivers
MRI uses a strong magnet and requires careful safety screening and stillness.
Tell the imaging team about implants, metal fragments, braces, devices, previous surgery and possible pregnancy in an adolescent.
Bring previous scans or provide the image-access details when asked, not only the written report.
Some children can complete MRI awake with preparation. Others may need a hospital-led sedation or anaesthetic assessment.
If sedation or anaesthesia is planned, follow the hospital’s fasting times exactly. Do not guess or use general internet instructions.
Arrange adult supervision and transport and follow the discharge instructions supplied by the sedation team.
